COLOR CORRECTION – what you want actually doesn’t matter a damn!

Color Correction

Hold on a minute! Whaaaat? The customer is king… right?

Before you get indignant and start searching online for “How do I escape my hairdresser?”, one thing needs to be made clear: When people think of color corrections, they often imagine something like, “Oh, just look at these—the Pinterest photos are so pretty! Give me beige-blonde. Thanks!”—without the faintest clue about the chaos unfolding on their own heads.

You’ve probably guessed it: that’s not how it works! Color correction is a blend of hair science and detective work that really puts your professional to the test. Before they can tackle your target look, they have to dive deep into the history of your hair. They go on a hunt for clues, acting like a forensic expert for hair color.

What was on it?

What color was used previously? Was it a permanent dye or just a semi-permanent tint? And what about that last “experiment” from the bathroom lab—do I see a packet of “Shocking Blue” left over from some past Carnival escapade? All neatly distributed along the lengths, creating a real pop of color.

What was underneath?

We aren’t talking about lingerie here, but rather old bleach jobs, highlights from way back—even before your last vacation—and that spontaneous “red phase” you’d almost forgotten about; we’re talking disastrous balayage and—oops—was there a lightening job somewhere along the line? After all, a color correction doesn’t just become necessary out of the blue…

Honesty saves hair.

“I just used a semi-permanent tint.” That’s often how it starts. Twenty minutes into the salon consultation, the professional realizes: it was actually four semi-permanent tints, two permanent colors, and a TikTok hack involving kitchen ingredients.
There is one small but important rule: honesty is nothing to be embarrassed about—and it’s not a confession. It simply helps ensure you don’t accidentally send your hair spiraling into a black hole of hair disaster!

No wild hair fails

Everyone’s heard them: horror stories about hair color gone wrong or bizarre hair rescue missions. Have you ever shown up to work with orange streaks because that drugstore bleach didn’t quite work its magic as planned? Did someone ask, “I hope that’s not the new summer trend”? We’ve all heard tales that put even the most shocking reality TV moments to shame! Don’t let your color correction end like a bad crime thriller—with the death of your hair.

Color correction is not magic.

At the end of the day, color correction isn’t magic. It’s a blend of detective work, chemistry class, and a dash of psychology. Sometimes it’s even a minor miracle—though rarely one achieved in a single session. And if you don’t want to be faced with a pair of scissors after four weeks, you have to trust your hairdresser and accept that not every desired color is achievable following the preceding color saga.

So, the next time you’re dreaming of a specific hair color, remember: hairstylists love being your heroes! But that only works if you’re honest with them about your hair history—that way, they’ll have fun and plenty of patience!
